Trailer Tent Spares….One essential task each year is to check your wheel
bearings for free play and/or unusual noise which can indicate impending wheel
bearing failure. Both of these can easily be checked with one wheel at a time
jacked up (see below).
Important..Please Read This
First….. Please ensure you read the item
description carefully. Do not purchase these if you are unsure
whether you have ‘taper roller’ or ‘parallel’ bearings.
WE CANNOT refund if you purchase incorrectly.
Should you return your bearings for a claim due to defective
manufacture, we will return them to our manufacture for confirmation of a defect before refunding… We apologise that we have had to introduce this policy on
our wheel bearings but this is due to customers purchasing the wrong
bearings, then returning them to us without their packaging and covered in
dirty grease, claiming they are faulty when they are not ……and the condition in
which they are returned renders them unsalable.

we will always refund or exchange in the event of a genuine
claim.
Conway Trailer Tents (& many other trailers) – New 1″
Taper Roller Wheel Bearings.
Our workshops often find while servicing, worn out bearings causing unacceptable amounts of play, rumbling/growling
noises or signs of overheating. Any of these can lead to failure on the
road…Its all too easy to overlook these vital items on your trailer tent. To
carry out a basic check on yours, jack up each wheel in turn..spin it and
listen if there are any rumble/growling or grating noises, then holding the
wheel firstly top and bottom then side to side rock it to check if there is any
excessive movement/play…If there is it is almost certain you need your
bearings changed before they overheat and/or collapse, (which can cause the
wheel to come off the trailer while towing). If any of the previous mentioned
faults are present we would recommend you have a professional mechanic examine
them for you….Sometimes they may only need a basic adjustment to relieve the
movement/play but you should get a professional to confirm this for you. If you
do need new bearings or want to replace yours for peace of mind…here they
are:- NOTE: there are
more than one type of bearing fitted to Conways depending on chassis
manufacturer but apart from the later Al-Ko type these 1″ taper roller are
by far the most common.
These standard 1″ taper roller bearings as fitted to the vast majority of Conway Trailer Tents from 1980s to late 2000s with the following exceptions:-
1) Some very late model Conways are
fitted with 1″ parallel bearings not taper roller, but if
you have adjustable bearings these are the ones you need….easy to check if yours are taper roller or not …just remove
the grease cap and if the bearing is held in place with a ‘castle nut’ and
split pin these are the bearings you need….If its held with a one shot locknut
(no splitpin) then you probably have parallel bearings ..these are NOT what
you need
2) On some models (circa 1999/2000) a
spacer is attached to the back of the oil seal on the inner bearing. If you have this type,
these are the correct bearings but you will have to remove the old spacer and
reuse it as these foreign spacer seals are not available. If the spacer is damaged we use standard 1″ fibre washers
as spacers in our workshop but the best option is to reuse the old one……we will be happy for you to contact us for further details about
this before you fit them if required.
3) If you have a small ‘tapered’ grease
cap with the lettering Al-Ko stamped on it…these are NOT the
bearings you need.
We supply bearings as a complete axle
set – i.e. for both hubs, i.e. 2 x
inner bearings fitted with oil seals & 2 x outer bearings. The full set is
£20 + P&P.
YES!!!! You can find
some spurious imported bearings a little cheaper on the internet……BUT….We have looked at some of these and wouldn’t trust the quality
of some of them to get us to the end of our road!. When you are towing your
trailer tent you want piece of mind the wheel bearings are going to do their
job properly, thats why we ONLY sell (& use ourselves) top quality bearings
from our premier supplier.
We can supply just one side
only if required BUT you need to contact us first and we will send an
amended invoice..One side: £12.65 + P&P. (We recommend changing both sides
and In our workshop we always change both sides together).
