Trailer Tent Conway Campa Delux with new canvas, poles and mattresses. Sleeps 4/6. Condition is Seller refurbished. Collection in person only from Sheffield. It with a mighty heavy heart we are selling this. I have had nearly 40 years of family holidays in this beaut. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to store it anymore as we live in a terraced house with no drive or garage. This trailer tent has been my home away from home since the age of 6 I think, and has never let the family down. I was lucky enough to be passed it down from my parents several years ago, and it has been enjoyed by my own family since.Apart from a brief sojourn when it was swapped with Auntie Janet and Uncle Mike over the road for a 1986 Vauxhall Polo saloon, its has been in the family since 1984/85. My Dad was very particular with looking after it, as have we. It is in very good condition, the few minor and easily fixable faults are listed below.Reasons why this is the best tent in the world (for the non-Campa initiated):It’s massive but folds up small enough to sit in your drive or garage. There’s loads of space for living if the weather is rubbish, everyone from your group piles in, with room in the trailer section for kids games. It’s great floating above the ground in bed, especially when it is raining. You can cook efficiently if it’s windy outside. The awning’s many many zips mean you can open it up to suit the weather/ social occasions. The ready made kitchen means you can get a brew on as soon as you arrive. It’s rock solid, even in fairly strong winds, you never feel like it’s going to take off. There’s the ability to string up a drying line inside and out if you need to.It’s easy to tow, the width is only 125cm, so it’s probably narrower than your car. Plus it’s not too high, so you will probably still be able to use your rear view mirror. We have a beast of a vehicle, so it looks really small attached.Storage, there’s loads of it.Electric hook-up or battery, you can have lights running at night. (Batteries not included)In approximately 2012, all poles, canvas and mattresses were replaced by a Conway approved company in Lancashire. Although sad to see the original orange and brown colour scheme go, it has provided a reassurance that this will last another couple decades if looked after right. The poles, canvas and mattresses are in very good condition. The canvas has one small 3cm tear at the front under the apex, but this is under cover of the tiny overhang so does not generate leaks. We had our final trip out in this last weekend. When it rained heavily one day, no drips or leaks were noticed. The highlight of the whole shebang is the size of the awning and the kitchen area. The kitchen slides off the back of the trailer, it includes a two burner gas hob, grill and small sink. Under this are two drawers for cutlery and stuff and storage for pots and pans. Please note, this will be sold without the cooking equipment or gas canister, apart from the grill pan and washing up bowl. You really only need to take your bedding, clothes and games in the car, as almost everything else fits in the trailer when packing up.The awning is huge, making even rainy days easy and dry. When the weather is stunning, you can unzip the entire front section to provide a shaded and cooler spot to sit. There are several flaps around the tent to roll up to allow air flow. Two of the rubber bands have perished, but can easily be replaced and retrofitted cheaply. There are curtained windows to two sides of the outer awning, providing either light or privacy for your needs. The other side has two flaps to allow ventilation when cooking. The trailer folds out to encompass two comfortable double beds. As mentioned, the mattresses are new and in excellent condition. They are situated within two inner tents, providing protection from insects. There is minor discolouration on the head end of the inner tents, but nothing too unsightly. This is sadly due to a faulty exhaust coming back from France in it a couple pf years ago.The trailer section has four lockers doubling up as seats, providing ample storage for clothes. The lockers also house the electrical points. This can be hooked up to electric, and also a leisure battery (Battery not provided). There are three small sockets to power the lights (sold with the tent, advertised on the original box as the ‘Brightest lights in camping’) and a double 13 amp socket for everything else. We power our fridge through this when we have mains hook up, which is really useful. The trailer also has an additional fitted table, which my family has mainly used for rainy games days. The table leg is slightly broken as my Uncle Mike (not my real uncle) didn’t understand how the leg folded up and pulled the screw out of the table top (You squeeze the top bit together and it unlatches). It is still functional, just a bit weak. When not in use, this can be stored under the bed.Under the beds are a load more storage for general camping detritus or even more sleeping space. You could buy an inner tent for clipping to the base of the bed creating a comfortable extra sleeping area on either side. My brother use to sleep down there as a teenager. It’s also a good place for keeping your beer cool.Unlike the original set of poles, this new set includes a VERY handy coat hook pole which attaches to the side of the awning, visible in the pictures. The trailer itself is in sound condition. As it is nearly forty years old it has signs of rust, but nothing of significance. The wheel bearings are greased regularly. We got new wheels for it about three years ago. The levelling legs are all working, but some of the turny handles have snapped off. We have a special spanner to adjust them which will be included in the sale. I believe these can be replaced quickly and easily from Towsure. There is an intermittent fault with the signalling lights at the back of the trailer when first attached. It normally takes a wiggle of wires and it’s back up and running, but could do with some real attention in the longer term. The cover is original bright orange. This has new elastic cord and a few stitches on the corner bottoms, but is completely weather proof with no holes. I looks a little tired and sun bleached, so doesn’t do the smartness of what’s underneath it any justice. The drawbar and hitch are in good condition. I have a hitch lock I will throw in. It provides a little reassurance that it won’t be nicked when you’re at the motorway services or it’s stored in your drive. Also included, and a sign of how well this has been loved and maintained is the original instructions for set up and the Conway catalogue. Please contact me if you would like more photos or have any more questions, I have been limited by Ebay as to how many I could upload. As I have it temporarily stored in my friends garage, I can take any more photos/ measurements of the tent in it’s folded up form only. All photos were taken July 26th 2020 at Middlehills Farm campsite near Matlock, Derbyshire. Highly recommended for a chilled out stay.We will not accept returns as this has been honestly and fairly described. This is from the early 1980’s, it is not prefect and has it’s foibles, but is in the condition described. Paypal or cash on collection.Collection within 7 days of auction end please. My friend needs her garage back!As we have used this during the pandemic, I can attest to this being (almost) everything you need to keep you safe whilst holidaying. We have a small porta-potty so could get by with only having to use the drinking water tap onsite. Great reassurance!Included in the sale are the trailer, awning, poles, mattresses, kitchen (obviously), the lights, spanner and all pegs needed, plus a mallet. Not for sale, the bedding, kitchen utensils/ crockery/ pans, fridge or the table and chairs in the awning.
