Re-listed because successful bidder changed their mind before coming to collect – having apparently bid on something else at the same time! Viewings are very welcome before auction end, but if you do bid and are successful payment will be required by paypal immediately. Thank you.
Here for sale is our well used Countryman folding camper. Folding campers are similar to trailer tents
but are a better system because the canvas, beds, seats and kitchen are fitted to
the unit body so there’s no fiddly assembling to do, so literally fold out
ready to use in about 15 minutes (longer if you attach the awning). This
Countryman is a 2004 version. It has two
fixed double beds with proper mattresses, off the floor and proper bed height
so very comfortable. There are also two
fitted sofa seats with useful storage beneath the cushions. The countryman has connections for gas,
leisure battery or electric hook up.
There is a built in kitchen with 3 way fridge (runs off either hook up,
battery or gas), a double hob burner and grill under, and a little sink with
foldable tap. There are fitted cupboards,
a drawer and shelves so there’s a place for everything. It even has conventional plug sockets so you
can plug in your camping kettle or chargers while camping and using hook up. If you prefer to be more off-grid the unit
still works well without hookup – you can use your own leisure battery or just
take battery lights etc.
The countryman can be easily towed by most cars (obviously
you must have a fitted tow bar with electrics) and unlike a
caravan you have some visibility over and beyond the trailer while towing
it. The unit sleeps four in two double beds and if you fit the
separate awning potentially you’ll add more living/sleeping space. You can still purchase Conway spares and
extras, the Conway owners club is a good place to research. The canvas is proper canvas so it breathes
well doesn’t need treating, and should last for many more years. The awning windows are removable so it can be
used as a canopy/gazebo. We
are non smokers.
The trailer is compact width at 154cm, 280cm long and 126cm
high. The setup size of the unit overall
is 280cm x 384cm and the awning if fitted would add another 430x220cm to the
overall set up size. If you’re not
familiar with the folding camper take a look at the Conway Owners club site as
there are set up instructions and video links on there. You can also see how the awning increases the size.
We have been using this camper for about ten years and it
has served us well on lots of weekends and long holidays, however we are moving
house and can’t take it with us. We will
be sorry to see it go.
THE NOT SO GOOD BITS
It is not a pristine example and there is wear and tear so
please note everything listed below and please inspect before bidding if you
are at all unsure, thank you. If we weren’t
moving house we would do the works on it and keep on using it because these are
lovely for family camping and really comfortable for short or long holidays.
The trailer transit cover is perishing. Replacements cost about £100. We use a tarp to cover the trailer now when
it is parked up, but over winter (before we put the tarp over) some rain got in
and the worktop over the kitchen sink swelled and we have removed that half of
the worktop. You can leave it as it is
(doesn’t affect the use) or it should be a fairly easy DIY job to replace it.
A bit of rain did get in and on to the canvas but apart from
a smallish area of staining it has fared reasonably well on the outside– you can
see from the pictures. We haven’t used
any cleaning products on the canvas so it is
still watertight. PLEASE NOTE the dark
shadow on the beige section at the top of the canvas in the picture is shade being cast by a tree
outside, not staining. There is some
staining/dark marks to the inside of the canvas as can be seen in the pictures, however
when the bed pods are hooked up to the roof above the mattress these shouldn’t be too visible. There are methods for cleaning water marks from canvas using pure soap flakes and hot water but we haven’t attempted that
inside the unit. We have set it up on a very
hot day to air it fully and kill any mould spores. It is possible to purchase new canvas for these, and sometimes you see them come up on ebay, but it is usable as it is if you don’t mind that it isn’t immaculate.
The interior light on the shelving unit has come adrift from
it’s fixing. It still works – should be
an easy fix.
One of the sofa seats stitching is coming loose in a small
area. Needle and thread will sort it, or you
could re-cover if you wanted.
The plastic window at the front right hand side of the unit has come unstitched
next to the canvas – we do a temporary gorilla tape fix when camping but you
might want to do something more permanent with needle and thread.
The awning has a tear near the apex at the front. Tape will fix it – or if you feel you want a
brand new awning they can be professionally repaired, or replaced. There is also a tear near the left hand corner fixing at the front of the awning. The connection zips to connect awning to unit are good and sound and we have never had any leaks.
The kitchen sink tap button has detached from the fascia. It still worked when last used with hookup.
There are general dents and dinks inside and out, commensurate
with age and use.
There are black condensation marks on the exterior plywood under
the left hand bed. This is a fairly common
occurrence I understand and we have cleaned just the marine ply only with
dilute bleach as best we can. It is not
visible in use because it’s underneath – just pointing out all faults as best we can.
A couple of the rubber hook connectors inside and out are
starting to perish (the sun does this) but again these can easily be found
online or at Conway suppliers, or just use cord/string.
Please ask any questions and if you want to inspect before
bidding just ask. It can be assembled on
our drive (but there wouldn’t be room to put the awning up). We won’t assemble it on wet days as we don’t
want to put it away wet and obviously can’t keep it assembled on our drive waiting for it to dry in the sun!
Prime examples of these can sell for up to a few thousand,
even at this age, and despite the battle scars it is a good unit, from a
quality manufacturer and will be a bargain to someone, especially if you are
happy to spend a little time putting these bits and bobs right. Sensible offers are welcome.
